Ray Charles Plaza

Holding court in the center of the Plaza that runs along the Flint River is a life-size sculpture of the pioneering soul musician, Ray Charles, seated at a baby Grand piano which rests on a rotating pedestal. While Ray Charles’ beloved melodies play at timed intervals, water flows over the pedestal and spills into a reflecting pool at its base.

Riverfront Park

A six-acre park spread out along the Flint River, Riverfront Park has a beautiful lawn for family picnics and gatherings, a music- and light-animated play fountain, pavilion areas, Turtle Grove Play Park with Dino Dig and a Tot Lot, a 1.5 mile Greenways Trail System, the Horace King Overlook, the Albany Welcome Center located in the Historic Bridge House and three-mile Riverwalk Greenway Trails.

British Royal Air Force Memorial

We invite Albanians to visit the British Royal Air Force Memorial. During World War II, pilots from across the world trained right here in Albany, Georgia. The Crown Hill Cemetery located on Dawson Road, has been named a historical site and is home to many fallen pilots of the British Royal Air Force. There is also a display of the British Royal Air Force memorabilia located at Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.
We encourage all Albanians and visitors to Albany to visit and explore the rich history of the British Royal Air Force.

Albany Area Arts Council

The Albany Area Arts Council strives to serve as a resource for those interested in arts and culture by helping artists to network with surrounding organizations that might utilize their services while centralizing information regarding upcoming events. Located in the historic Carnegie Library, the council hosts art exhibitions and openings, and also rents its space for private events. “The mission of the Albany Area Arts Council is to encourage, sponsor, and support arts and culture in our community.”

The Parks at Chehaw

With over 700 acres of pristine, conservation land and a wild animal park dedicated to education, Chehaw is a unique attraction for South Georgia. Being one of the only two accredited zoos in Georgia, Chehaw continues to be devoted to the three areas it was founded on: conservation, preservation and education. From the Wild Animal Park to the endless recreational opportunities, Chehaw has an activity for every visitor.

Theatre Albany

Theatre Albany produces a diverse and range of productions, including popular Broadway plays and musicals, classic dramas, contemporary plays, and even original works. For over 82 years, Theatre Albany has been a source of entertainment for the entire Southwest Georgia region. Thronateeska Heritage Center

Thronateeska Heritage Center was incorporated in 1974 for the purpose of historic preservation and science education in Albany and Southwest Georgia. Its campus includes a history museum, science museum, rail car display, and a 40′ full dome HD planetarium system, the first in the world of its kind. New to Thronateeska is the archives and collections department, which catalogues, stores, and cares for all of the collections at Thronateeska, and is open to the public for research purposes.
