Summer Swing Out @ Thronateeska

Grab your dancing shoes and come down to the train station for a step back in time for Thronateeska’s Summer Swing Out on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Couples can swing their hearts out at The Depot while your kids explore the Science Museum during the lock-in, which includes one planetarium show and 30 minutes in the Science Museum for a total of one hour of science fun.

Cost:
Summer Swing Out – $10+ tax for non member couples and $5+ tax for members
Science Museum Lock-In – $5+tax per child

Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibit and Sale

Join the Albany Area Arts Council  for the 16th Annual Southwest Georgia Regional Fine Art Exhibition and Sale! The exhibition and opening will be held at 100 W. Roosevelt Ave. in Thronateeska’s Science Museum. The opening reception begins June 4, 2015 at 6 PM with the awards ceremony being held at 7PM in the Wetherbee Planetarium.

The art will remain on exhibit June 4-20, 2015

Twentieth Century @ Theatre Albany

By Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur; Based on a play by Charles Bruce Milholland; in a new adaptation by Ken Ludwig.

Bankrupt, with his career on a downslide, egomaniacal Broadway director Oscar Jaffe boards the Twentieth Century Ltd. and encounters his former discovery and ex-chorus girl Lily Garland, not a temperamental Hollywood star on the train between NY and Chicago. He pulls out all the stops in persuading her to return to Broadway in his upcoming show.

Festival Springs Fountain @ Riverfront Park

The Festival Springs Fountain in Riverfront Park will open Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 22 and will close the day after Labor Day, Tuesday, September 8, 2015. The hours of operation will be from 9AM-7PM.

Albany Unchained Bike Race

Races are set to begin at 11 a.m., with the final race starting at 5:20 p.m. Each class will traverse the same course which begins on Pine Avenue, turns left onto Jackson Street, left onto Broad Avenue, left onto Front Street, and finally left back onto Pine.

Sunday’s race will feature eight different categories of riders traveling different distances on a route through Lee County.

In addition to the criterium races on Saturday and the road races on Sunday, this year’s Unchained event will also feature time trials, where single riders will ride a separate course and try to post a faster time. The trials start at 8 a.m. on Washington Street. Riders will travel the inside lane of the one-way street, turning left on Seventh Avenue, left on Jackson Street, followed by a left onto Pine Avenue, where they will finish in front of the Government Center.

2015 Historic Preservation Art Competition and Exhibit

The Albany Area Arts Council and the Albany Dougherty Historic Preservation Commission are pleased to conduct the 2015 Historic Preservation Art Competition and Exhibit as collaboration between the two organizations.  The contest is meant to promote education and awareness of local historic properties. The exhibit features paintings, drawings, sculpture, and digital photography by assorted artists.

The exhibition will open at the Albany Area Arts Council with a reception on Thursday May 7 @ 6PM. The opening reception is free and open to the public. The awards presentation will be held at 6:30PM. Please join us to meet the artists and mingle with old and new friends over light refreshments. The artwork is for sale. The exhibition will remain on display through June 23, 2015.

Georgia Kiwanis District Art & Music Showcase @ Downtown Albany

The annual Georgia Kiwanis District Art & Music Showcase will be hosted in downtown Albany in the historic Albany Area Arts Council (formerly Carnegie Library) and Municipal Auditorium buildings on Saturday, April 25th.

The art portion will be held in the Arts Council Building with registration in the morning and entries on display from noon until 1:30 p.m., when the exhibit closes and judging takes place until 3 p.m. The art winners will be announced after the music showcase concludes. Judges for the events have been drawn from the local area as well as Tifton and Valdosta. The music competition will begin at 3 p.m. and wrap up around 5. The event is family-friendly and free to all!
